Driving
in Greece is on the Right and the laws conform to those of
continental Europe. In order to legally drive, you need to have
with you an EU driving license or an International driving
permit. Driving is not very difficult if you are used to the
Mediterranean way. Parking is a headache, especially during
morning hours. Most of the road signs are displayed
in both English and Greek. The speed limit for cars in
residential areas is 40 km/h (25 mph), on Avenues 80 km/h (50
mph), and on Highways 120 km/h (75 mph). Seatbelts are
compulsory by law for all passengers, although the police are
not very strict about enforcing that law within the city limits.
Petrol Stations
can easily be found within Athens and are open six days a week,
between 8 am and 8 pm. The measuring unit for fuel is the liter.
All stations sell unleaded (95 octane), super unleaded (98
octane) and Diesel.
